With extensive knowledge of model building and fire codes and the big picture in mind, we can assist you navigate these regulations for your facility. Whether it is a new, renovated, or existing facility, we can provide you with our code consulting services to ensure that the facility is compliant with the building, fire and life safety codes. Avoid costly changes during permitting and inspection, but assisting with identifying life safety and fire challenges and can work with you in finding a solution.
While we do not produce construction plans, we will work directly with your team to develop code compliant and cost effective fire safety systems. This includes development and review of specifications related to fire protection and alarm systems, review of fire protection and alarm bid documents and construction documents, review of shop drawings, site inspections, etc.
Not only can we develop the fire safety systems plans with your team, but we can also help develop your building code summary and egress plan sheets. This helps speed up the permitting process by giving the plan review (AHJ) a road map to your code compliance.
Identifying the hazards and risks within a facility is key to protecting your people and property. We provide these assessments with facility owners and managers, and will work with you as an extension of your team to find cost effective solutions. If your facility has two or more fire/life safety systems connected compliance with NFPA 4 could be required, but we can assist you in working through what you need to keep your people and facility safe from fire.
Hazard Assessments? Dust Hazard Assessments (DHA)? Yeah, we can help!
Any construction project located on a federal military installation, requires the oversight of what is known as a qualified fire protection engineer (QFPE) that is involved in all aspects of the design and construction phases. This QFPE is required to be a registered fire protection engineer, we provide these services. We set ourselves apart by being integrated with your team to not only identify compliance but work with the entire team to find cost-effective fire and life safety solutions.
Facilities storing and using hazardous chemicals are required to comply with fire code limitations on quantities (maximum allowable quantities) or with strict construction, fire and life safety requirements. We work with facility managers and users to determine the best approach for your facility and develop hazardous material inventory statements (HMIS) and management plans.
Combustible Dust? Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA)? Yeah, we know dust!
With extensive knowledge of combustible dust hazards and the NFPA protection measures, we are here to help with your DHA!
High-rise facility or have an atrium, it is likely that the facility will require a smoke control system. We work with the design team to provide a holistic smoke control system through our rational analysis (performance of the system) and collaboration. From a rough size estimate to a full smoke control rational analysis, we can fit the need for any team. Additionally, we can act as the smoke control special inspector to commission your facility's smoke control system designed by another engineer of record.
Not all buildings are created the same which sometimes creates challenges when complying with prescriptive building and fire code requirements. With our extensive knowledge of not only model building codes, but also how fire spreads through a building and people behave in a fire, we can work with your and your team to develop solutions that meet the fire and life safety goals (meeting the intent of the code).
Often times the field conditions for some fire life safety systems can create difficulties in code compliance and meeting listing requirements. In these situations, to ensure the system is still providing the adequate level of safety, engineering judgements are sometimes a route to achieve the life safety goals. Often times this occurs with fire-rated construction details, but can occur in other fire and life safety systems.
