We strive for balance. Whether it be in our own personal or professional lives, balance is key. We strive to balance the cost and design of facilities without sacrificing fire and life safety features that protect the people and property.
Our goal is simple, protect people and property by reducing the risk of the fire hazard. The complex part is the execution of the goal. All buildings, whether new or existing, are required to follow some form of building regulation and over the years, these building regulations have expanded and evolved into a complex set of documents. Having to navigate these regulations, we strive to provide trainings and cost-effective engineered fire solutions for designers, builders, enforcers, and owners.
Having advanced knowledge of all building systems, we work on holistic fire protection approaches. We work to educate your organization so that you can have the power and knowledge to further grow.

Principal | Fire Protection Engineer
Derek Duval is a registered professional engineer (PE) in Fire Protection Engineering and Fire/Life Safety Code Expert located in the Southern California Region. He works hard to ensure that the life safety goals are met for the people and property he is hired to protect.
In an effort to expand the access to fire protection engineering knowledge, Mr. Duval has developed and currently teaches three (3) fire protection engineering courses offered through UCSD Extended Studies. He is also working with Meyer Fire in developing fire protection videos, trainings, and courses.
Mr. Duval built his experience in Fire Protection Engineering from a diverse background. He has experience in the development of national codes and standards, design and review fire protection systems (including but not limited to; fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, smoke control systems, fire-rated construction systems), installation oversight of fire protection/alarm systems, hazard assessment and risk analysis, and special hazard knowledge. Lastly, he has the unique ability to break down complex concepts and topics to easy to chewable and digestible bites, making it easier for everyone to increase their own fire life safety knowledge base. Having such exposure to different elements of fire protection engineering, is what helps him solve life safety and building code challenges.

Mr. Duval holds a Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master's of Science in Fire Protection Engineering both from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI). He is a DBIA (Design-Build Institute of America) Designated Professional finding solutions with designers, builders, installers, and owners.
